I forgot to mention in my previous Golden Globes post, but better late than never … HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I’m always very excited about the beginning of a brand new year, because of the annual boost of motivation I have to take on new challenges and resolutions. However, I also always LOVE the fact that all of my favourite TV shows that have been on break throughout December are finally back in my life!
See below for a couple of new series that I think will be exciting to begin watching, as well as all of the return dates for my personal favourites. Don’t forget to check out the two links at the bottom of the post that list every show imaginable, just in case your favourites are different from mine!
BRAND NEW SERIES
BILLIONS: PREMIERING SUNDAY JANUARY 17
Billions is an all-new dramatic TV series, presented by Showtime, that is extremely intriguing to me as it pins Paul Giamatti as Chuck Rhoades a ruthless U.S. attorney against Damien Lewis as Bobby “Axe” Axelrod an ambitious hedge fund genius. Although Axelrod seems extremely charitable and generous in the eyes of the public, it is Rhoades who is working to uncover the devious and criminal actions of the so-called hedge fund king. I love the “Power is the ultimate currency” catchphrase of the show and I’m extremely excited to see how the storyline will unravel from week to week!
SHADOWHUNTERS: PREMIERING TUESDAY JANUARY 12
Shadowhunters is a new fantasy TV Series that will be releasing weekly episodes on Netflix (Canada) as well as on ABC Family (USA).This TV series will be based on The Mortal Instruments novel series written by Cassandra Clare. In 2013, there was a film released that featured Lily Collins in the lead role, which I thought was good but definitely left room for improvement. The first season will most likely follow the plot lines of the first novel, City of Bones, of Clare’s series. Therefore, I am excited to see how it will come to life in the new format of a week by week build versus a 2 hour snapshot.
For those of you who haven’t read Clare’s series, I thought I’d give you a small overview to convince you to watch the pilot! Clary Fray is a teenage girl who discovers that she has been sheltered from a secret world of shadowhunters (human-angel hybrids), vampires, werewolves, and demons. After her mother is abducted, Clary bands together with a group of local shadowhunters in order to find her mother as well as uncover the powers she has unknowingly been forced for years to keep hidden. I’m interested to see what the new leads of Katherine McNamara (Clary), Dominic Sherwood (Jace), Alberto Rosende (Simon), Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle), Matthew Daddario (Alec), and Isaiah Mustafa (Luke) will bring to the table.
