This month’s edition of ‘In Theatres’ features November’s best new releases including a great mix of fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, and animated films. As usual I have featured the films that I am the most eager to go and see this month, as well as a bunch of extras if my picks aren’t your style.

1) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – In Theatres Friday November 18

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is finally here, which means the entire Harry Potter fandom can rejoice as a new film allows us to jump back into the wizarding world. This film is the first of the Harry Potter prequel series and is inspired by the novel of the same name by J.K. Rowling. Eddie Redmayne takes on the lead role of magizoologist New Scamander, while the story follows his adventures to capture the magical creatures he accidentally lets loose in New York. The entire #Pottermania series has been my way of preparing for this film’s release, so if you haven’t already check out the previous posts linked below.

Previous #Pottermania posts: Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of FireOrder of the PhoenixHalf-Blood PrinceDeathly Hallows – Part 1 and Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

2) Arrival – In Theatres Friday November 11

Arrival is a sci-fi drama film directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for Prisoners and Sicario, featuring Amy Adams in the lead role of linguist Louise Banks. The story follows the arrival of twelve spacecrafts to Earth and the journey to uncover what exactly they are looking to accomplish. The supporting cast is exceptional as Jeremy Renner potrays theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly, and Forest Whitaker plays US Army Colonel Weber. They are all part of the special team created to decipher what the pods mean and what their carriers want from the human race.

3) The Edge of Seventeen – In Theatres Friday November 18

The Edge of Seventeen is a coming of age film featuring Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role of high school junior Nadine. The story follows Nadine as she comes to terms with her best friend and older brother beginning to date. The addition of Woody Harrelson as Nadine’s history teacher should add great punches of humour as a light way to play off the more dramatic moments of her storyline.

I LOVE receiving reader emails and I reply to each personally! If you’d like a suggestion on what film to add to your collection or which TV series to start bingewatching, send me a message to cinematiccrashcourse@gmail.com!
