IN THEATRES: January & February (2016)

I’ve decided to create a combination post for this edition of In Theatres as I felt there weren’t enough exciting films in January for it to have its own post. However, I do believe that the two featured films below look exceptional and I cannot wait to watch them unravel on the big screen. So, keep scrolling for both of their trailers and summaries below, as well as for an extra list of upcoming releases.

1) The Revenant – In Theatres Friday January 8

The Revenant is a western adventure film inspired by true events, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as 1820s frontiersman Hugh Glass. The film is directed by current Academy Award winning Best Director Alejandro G. Inarritu, and it follows the hunting expedition of Hugh and his team through the uncharted American wilderness. The story follows their journey as well as the subsequent events after Hugh is mauled by a bear and his fellow trapper John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) convinces the crew to leave him for dead.

I unfortunately have not had the spare time this month to go and see The Revenant since its release earlier in the month. However, I have heard exceptional reviews about both the acting and direction, so I will definitely ensure I see it before the Academy Awards on Saturday February 28. Also, I have my fingers crossed that this year Leo will FINALLY capture the Oscar he has been forever chasing!

2) Deadpool – In Theatres Friday February 12

Deadpool is an action superhero film featuring Ryan Reynolds in the main role of Marvel Comics character former special forces operative Wade Wilson. After Wade finds out that he has several forms of cancer he attempts to cure it by subjecting himself to a horrible experiment that leaves him changed forever. This mutation has given him accelerated hearing powers, along with severely scarred skin, a dark sense of humour and a clearly unhinged mind. Wade decides to use his new abilities and mindset to create the identity of Deadpool in order to hunt down the man who almost destroyed him. Personally, I saw this trailer back in August and have been counting down the days until its release!
